A Separate Peace Essay In the novel, A Separate Peace by John Knowles, the hero, Gene Forrester â€Å"battled† inside himself to discover â€Å"a separate peace† and in this procedure coordinated his feelings at Phineas, his flat mate. Forrester and Phineas framed the deception of an incredible friendship, yet there was a â€Å"silent rivalry† between them in Forrester’s mind. Self misleadings in Forrester persuaded that Phineas was â€Å"out to get him† (Forrester). Subliminally Forrester jerked the appendage of the tree and constrained Phineas to fall and break his leg. Phineas discovered reality of his â€Å"accident† with the assistance of Leper Lepellier and Brinker Hadley, who were companions that went to Devon High School. Quality Forrester’s struggle between his disdain of and unwaveringness toward Phineas’ character and athletic capacities was settled by the demise of Phineas. Quality Forrester and Phineas framed a figment of an extraordinary friendship, which was earnest when they hopped from the â€Å"forbidden† tree. â€Å"We were the best of companions at that moment,† said Forrester when he recollected the moment (Knowles 10). Forrester â€Å"looked deeper† into his relationship with Phineas and got desirous of his abilities, â€Å"I was starting to see that Phineas could pull off anything.
